City Kids Camp History
City Kids Camp is a grassroots success story—a testament to what’s possible when a community unites around a shared purpose. Through the passion of the Corona family, its Board of Directors, volunteers, donors, and supporters, the camp continues to give underprivileged youth a space to thrive, dream, and build a brighter future.
Founded in June 2016 by Hector and Diane Corona, City Kids Camp provides at-risk youth from Chicago with outdoor experiences designed to foster personal growth. Originally held at the Coronas’ Dixon home, the camp expanded in 2019 to a 167-acre site in Lewistown, Illinois. Today, campers enjoy activities like nature walks, fishing, and boating, while learning teamwork, resilience, and confidence. Many experience nature for the first time and leave with stronger self-esteem and community awareness. Now celebrating a decade of impact, City Kids Camp has served over 4,000 children, sustained by generous donors such as Mike and Kelly Smith, media advocates, and organizations that support its Social and Emotional Learning programs. City Kids Camp remains a model of grassroots support, inspiring positive change in underprivileged youth.
